Wednesdays on the Stoop: Elizabeth Greenspan
April 21 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Wednesdays On the Stoop, a series of free programming by Zoom every Wednesday from 4 pm – 5 pm. The sessions are designed to be a constant structure–every Wednesday at 4 you can count on Blue Stoop to plug you into your writing energy with an informal and supportive space.
Like many of us, our city has had a difficult year, but it is also still here! In this workshop we’ll talk about how cities and stories are alike and write our own short pieces. We’ll begin by reading John Edgar Wideman’s flash fiction “Art of Story” Art of Story | The New Yorker. Then we’ll discuss techniques to make cities more vivid on the page and do some short writing prompts. We’ll share our experiments, and celebrate the cities in our lives.
Elizabeth Greenspan writes about cities and lives in West Philadelphia. Her articles, essays, and book reviews have appeared in The New Yorker, Architect, The New Republic, and Places Journal, among other publications. She teaches urban studies and creative writing at the University of Pennsylvania, and is the author of Battle for Ground Zero, about rebuilding and memorialization in New York City.
